General Luna to Sohoton Cove

The road transfer from General Luna to Dapa that starts a Sohoton Cove day — and how to check whether you need it at all.

It is not on Siargao, and it is not a national park

Sohoton Cove is on Bucas Grande, a separate island whose territory is the municipality of Socorro. It is a cluster of small islets with lagoons, limestone caves and rock formations — “Sohoton” means “narrow opening” in Visayan, for the gaps between them. It is also, routinely, confused with the Sohoton Caves and Natural Bridge Park on Samar, hundreds of kilometres north, which is why it is so often called a national park. It is not that place, and reaching it means leaving Siargao by sea rather than driving to another point on the island.

The leg we quote is the road transfer to Dapa

Dapa is Siargao’s main seaport and the side of the island that faces Bucas Grande — the tie is old, since Socorro was a sitio and then a barrio of Dapa, known as Bunga, until it was made a municipality in its own right on 22 February 1961. A Sohoton day from General Luna therefore normally starts as a road transfer across the island to Dapa, with the sea leg continuing from the port.

Check whether you need the road leg at all

Some Sohoton trips are arranged as a boat chartered directly from General Luna, in which case there is no road transfer to pay for and you should not be sold one. Others start from Dapa and need the road leg timed against a departure. Before you book anything, establish which shape your trip is, because the two are priced completely differently. We would rather tell you the transfer is unnecessary than quote you for a leg you do not need.

Coming from the Surigao mainland instead?

Bucas Grande is also reached from the mainland, from Hayanggabon Port in Claver, which is a different journey with nothing to do with Siargao. If you are already on Siargao, that is not your route — and if you are still planning how to reach the region, decide that first, because it changes which island you should be staying on.

What to include in your request

Send your date, your General Luna accommodation, group size and whether Sohoton is the whole plan or one stop in a wider boat day. Tell us if a boat is already arranged and you only need the road transfer. We will set out in writing which legs, waiting time and local fees are covered before you commit.

Why there is no price or journey time here

We would rather publish nothing than publish a number we cannot stand behind. Roads, weather and group size all move the answer. Send the trip and we will send a fixed, all-in price for your date.
